| Ah Mei Kaya Toast |
[Mar. 1st, 2009|01:17 pm] |

My dad was in Taiwan for the past month and just came back yesterday. So last night my mum asked me if i would like to join them for an early breakfast this morning. Usually I'd sleep in. But I said okay since I've not spent time with my dad in a long time.
I woke up bright and early at 7.30am. When we were on our way there, my mum asked, You know we're going for a breakfast reunion with my ex-classmates right??
So I spent the morning talking to a group of fifty plus year olds. Well, most of the time I was listening. And inwardly gasping in shock and horror. The topics they cover are WAY too heavy for a Sunday morning; of which some revolve around aging. There was this man that had a heart attack and he was talking about how they did his operation; by inserting some whatever through the major blood vessel in his thigh all the way till it reaches the heart, which when inflated, will dilate the blood vessel. Someone's sister is half paralysed, and someone's parents tried out this advanced research surgery performed by a korean robot. GAHHH. It's a Sunday morning. I just wanna eat my generously-buttered toast without having to think of the consequences.
It was quite fun anyway. I think I saw a glimpse of my future when they covered the more light-hearted topics like their children, also when they reminisced about the past and poked fun at each other. It's like suddenly I can see this happening to me and my ex-classmates. Funny and scary thought. |

| how we have grown. CNY Day 2 |
[Jan. 27th, 2009|11:33 pm] |
is always spent visiting my dad's side. I've a cousin there that is my gossiping/giggling-at-inappropriate-moments/kill-boredom-during-family-gatherings buddy in the family.
This was at my aunt's house when everyone else was munching on goodies and yakking away in cantonese. My AI looking lika migraine.

This is

I remember her brother was a rascal and I was a crybaby. So I don't have many good impression of her brother except that I always had to call him BIU GOR! (Biao ge)

our relatives made us pose for this picture which we gladly did. LOL.
Look at our other cousin looking all cute and studious in his kindergarten graduation pic! AWW

AH. Now he's too manly and too tall to be in the picture. He had to rush off to book in so we only took 3 shots, 2 with faces cut off and one really awkward. Anyway even though his face can't be seen, confirm chop is my cousin. See his nametag. I don't get how come his number four looks so weird though. The print looks like parsley.
Ok that's all, today was fun |

| YUM TONG |
[Jan. 25th, 2009|10:20 pm] |
I don't know what's the standard protocol of reunion dinners, but here's what my family had...

Almost every dish has a meaning to it, and we have almost the same combination year after year. My paternal grandmother used to cook everything, but ever since she passed away 7 years ago, she passed all her recipes to my mum. My dad's side is cantonese and my mum's, peranakan/teochew.
Anyway, my mum cooks good food, but she has no love for soups, probably because it's not her culture. And as everyone knows, the cantonese love their soups. YUM TONG!
When my mum does soup, she never does a taste test, or she'll decide whether to salt it according to her mood. Lol, I love my mum and all, and I appreciate that she gets everything done. But she needs to show some lurrrrve for da soups! Anyway we usually have lotus root soup because the word leen ngao means something auspicious in cantonese. Fish maw soup is her thing. I love fish maw soup but there's no salt in this one.
Anyway I think its time that I start learning to cook all this. Gahhhh |

| Chungking Express |
[Jan. 16th, 2009|10:49 pm] |

Watched Chungking Express late last night, starring Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Faye Wong, Lin Ching Hsia and Valerie Chow. The movie actually has two parts to it, the first with Takeshi and Lin Ching Hsia, and the second with Tony, Faye and Valerie. Both stories are about love, lost and loneliness, about people finding each other in a concrete jungle. I wouldn't say I understood everything about the movie, but I love it because it's poignant and inspiring in its own way. Good movie, must watch. I really wanna watch In The Mood For Love next. |

| 2008 wrap up. |
[Jan. 1st, 2009|02:53 am] |
2008 was a good year. It started off reluctant and slow because I kept thinking it was still 2007, I had to keep reminding myself its 2008. Hahaa. Then it picked up and was good. Last year was a year of growth for me, I guess maybe because I turned 20 and suddenly felt that age is catching up. Hahaa. Somehow as a teenager, it seemed more ok to make mistakes, because I had the title of 'ignorant youth' to fall back on.
Now, 20 already leh! It makes my day when anyone tells me I look younger than my age. And when I'm around kids I silently pray that no one calls me auntie.
A review on the resolutions I made last year: FAIL hahaha
I made a resolution to sleep and wake up early. HAHA! Went on and off. Did that for short periods of time, then kept reverting to bad sleeping habits. But seriously, sleeping and waking up early is totally different. Even when getting the same number of hours of sleep, nothing beats waking up early and feeling like there's a whole day ahead. Except maybe staying up late. HAHA. Major dilemma.
And I resolved to maintain my weight below 45kg. Until maybe the last few months of 2008 where I slowly let my gluttony take over my vanity and I kept pigging out, esp at Yen's place. Then I think I'm 47-8kg now. Crap.
Resolutions for 2009:
Sleep early wake up early (while I'm typing this at 3am in the morning. lol)
Keep weight below 45.
Get out of personal financial crisis.
Stop being such a boring old fart and start going out more.

| The Home Song Stories |
[Dec. 18th, 2008|01:29 pm] |

I watched the Home Song Stories last night online. Starring Joan Chen and Qi Yu Wu. I watched the show mainly for Qi Yu Wu because I find him extremely hot. HAHAHA. And also for Joan Chen la, coz I always hear people talk about how good an actress she is, but I've never watched any of her movies.

The movie is about a nightclub singer in Shanghai that moves to Australia with her two kids to be with an Aussie man. She's searching for a good father for her children, and also a stable home. BUT she's slightly unstable, due to mental baggage from growing up and previous relationships. Falls in love with an apprentice chef, which is Qi Yu Wu.

Which then begins the downward spiral of her and children's lives. It's a pretty sad movie to watch, with no picture perfect ending where all things are resolved. Joan Chen is hot. And no wonder people always say she's a good actress, coz she is. Hahaha. A very convincing and natural one. I also loved her numerous cheongsams in the film.

I wonder why Qi Yu Wu always seems to be acting in period films. e.g. this movie, 881, 12 Lotus, The Little Nyonya. Hot in all anyways. |
