| Ah Mei Kaya Toast |
[Mar. 1st, 2009|01:17 pm] |

My dad was in Taiwan for the past month and just came back yesterday. So last night my mum asked me if i would like to join them for an early breakfast this morning. Usually I'd sleep in. But I said okay since I've not spent time with my dad in a long time.
I woke up bright and early at 7.30am. When we were on our way there, my mum asked, You know we're going for a breakfast reunion with my ex-classmates right??
So I spent the morning talking to a group of fifty plus year olds. Well, most of the time I was listening. And inwardly gasping in shock and horror. The topics they cover are WAY too heavy for a Sunday morning; of which some revolve around aging. There was this man that had a heart attack and he was talking about how they did his operation; by inserting some whatever through the major blood vessel in his thigh all the way till it reaches the heart, which when inflated, will dilate the blood vessel. Someone's sister is half paralysed, and someone's parents tried out this advanced research surgery performed by a korean robot. GAHHH. It's a Sunday morning. I just wanna eat my generously-buttered toast without having to think of the consequences.
It was quite fun anyway. I think I saw a glimpse of my future when they covered the more light-hearted topics like their children, also when they reminisced about the past and poked fun at each other. It's like suddenly I can see this happening to me and my ex-classmates. Funny and scary thought. |

| how we have grown. CNY Day 2 |
[Jan. 27th, 2009|11:33 pm] |
is always spent visiting my dad's side. I've a cousin there that is my gossiping/giggling-at-inappropriate-moments/kill-boredom-during-family-gatherings buddy in the family.
This was at my aunt's house when everyone else was munching on goodies and yakking away in cantonese. My AI looking lika migraine.

This is

I remember her brother was a rascal and I was a crybaby. So I don't have many good impression of her brother except that I always had to call him BIU GOR! (Biao ge)

our relatives made us pose for this picture which we gladly did. LOL.
Look at our other cousin looking all cute and studious in his kindergarten graduation pic! AWW

AH. Now he's too manly and too tall to be in the picture. He had to rush off to book in so we only took 3 shots, 2 with faces cut off and one really awkward. Anyway even though his face can't be seen, confirm chop is my cousin. See his nametag. I don't get how come his number four looks so weird though. The print looks like parsley.
Ok that's all, today was fun |

| YUM TONG |
[Jan. 25th, 2009|10:20 pm] |
I don't know what's the standard protocol of reunion dinners, but here's what my family had...

Almost every dish has a meaning to it, and we have almost the same combination year after year. My paternal grandmother used to cook everything, but ever since she passed away 7 years ago, she passed all her recipes to my mum. My dad's side is cantonese and my mum's, peranakan/teochew.
Anyway, my mum cooks good food, but she has no love for soups, probably because it's not her culture. And as everyone knows, the cantonese love their soups. YUM TONG!
When my mum does soup, she never does a taste test, or she'll decide whether to salt it according to her mood. Lol, I love my mum and all, and I appreciate that she gets everything done. But she needs to show some lurrrrve for da soups! Anyway we usually have lotus root soup because the word leen ngao means something auspicious in cantonese. Fish maw soup is her thing. I love fish maw soup but there's no salt in this one.
Anyway I think its time that I start learning to cook all this. Gahhhh |

| Chungking Express |
[Jan. 16th, 2009|10:49 pm] |

Watched Chungking Express late last night, starring Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Faye Wong, Lin Ching Hsia and Valerie Chow. The movie actually has two parts to it, the first with Takeshi and Lin Ching Hsia, and the second with Tony, Faye and Valerie. Both stories are about love, lost and loneliness, about people finding each other in a concrete jungle. I wouldn't say I understood everything about the movie, but I love it because it's poignant and inspiring in its own way. Good movie, must watch. I really wanna watch In The Mood For Love next. |

| 2008 wrap up. |
[Jan. 1st, 2009|02:53 am] |
2008 was a good year. It started off reluctant and slow because I kept thinking it was still 2007, I had to keep reminding myself its 2008. Hahaa. Then it picked up and was good. Last year was a year of growth for me, I guess maybe because I turned 20 and suddenly felt that age is catching up. Hahaa. Somehow as a teenager, it seemed more ok to make mistakes, because I had the title of 'ignorant youth' to fall back on.
Now, 20 already leh! It makes my day when anyone tells me I look younger than my age. And when I'm around kids I silently pray that no one calls me auntie.
A review on the resolutions I made last year: FAIL hahaha
I made a resolution to sleep and wake up early. HAHA! Went on and off. Did that for short periods of time, then kept reverting to bad sleeping habits. But seriously, sleeping and waking up early is totally different. Even when getting the same number of hours of sleep, nothing beats waking up early and feeling like there's a whole day ahead. Except maybe staying up late. HAHA. Major dilemma.
And I resolved to maintain my weight below 45kg. Until maybe the last few months of 2008 where I slowly let my gluttony take over my vanity and I kept pigging out, esp at Yen's place. Then I think I'm 47-8kg now. Crap.
Resolutions for 2009:
Sleep early wake up early (while I'm typing this at 3am in the morning. lol)
Keep weight below 45.
Get out of personal financial crisis.
Stop being such a boring old fart and start going out more.

| The Home Song Stories |
[Dec. 18th, 2008|01:29 pm] |

I watched the Home Song Stories last night online. Starring Joan Chen and Qi Yu Wu. I watched the show mainly for Qi Yu Wu because I find him extremely hot. HAHAHA. And also for Joan Chen la, coz I always hear people talk about how good an actress she is, but I've never watched any of her movies.

The movie is about a nightclub singer in Shanghai that moves to Australia with her two kids to be with an Aussie man. She's searching for a good father for her children, and also a stable home. BUT she's slightly unstable, due to mental baggage from growing up and previous relationships. Falls in love with an apprentice chef, which is Qi Yu Wu.

Which then begins the downward spiral of her and children's lives. It's a pretty sad movie to watch, with no picture perfect ending where all things are resolved. Joan Chen is hot. And no wonder people always say she's a good actress, coz she is. Hahaha. A very convincing and natural one. I also loved her numerous cheongsams in the film.

I wonder why Qi Yu Wu always seems to be acting in period films. e.g. this movie, 881, 12 Lotus, The Little Nyonya. Hot in all anyways. |

[Dec. 3rd, 2008|03:16 am] |
So today, I talked to the program director about this issue. What she adviced was to send him a very polite email, thanking him for a wonderful experience, reminding him about late payment and stating that I've talked to the program director about it. And CC her in the email.
To me, it's all really a very polite political facade whereby the underlying meaning is, the program director knows about this, so pay up.
Anyway about an hour later, he replied my sms from the previous day. Apologising for the late reply and late payment. Will pay by end of this week. Coincidence or the message got passed through? Shrugs, will probably never get to know. |

| owe money don't pay |

I'm somewhat pissed. Remember I did a previous internship that paid peanuts? The guy hasn't paid me the last month's pay yet. It's absurd really. I ended work with him in September, and its now December. I smsed him a while ago and he said he'll arrange something. Then nothing happened. And I smsed him this afternoon, and he hasn't replied till now. The amount is not a lot, but neither is it little. Whatever it is, this is serious because it is unethical and unprofessional; and I got this internship through school contacts.
Whatever game he thinks he is playing with me, he is definitely going to lose because owing an employee money is no joking matter. |

Ok, if you're wondering what happened to me, I'm glad to say that I'm still alive. Woo.
I had a (really long) moment of silence for the late Michael Crichton, who passed away on November 4, 2008. No la of course not, I was just lazy, but on the topic of his death, I really didn't expect him to pass away so soon, I was still waiting for his next book, because the ending to his last book, Next, was really lame. Sorry I said that Mr Crichton, please don't haunt me. I thought he would live forever, like Cher, I mean I never expect anyone to die.
I'm doing my second internship now, and the person I'm working with is like Guan Im Mah. Pays on time, caring, active in the go-green movement, and sends models back because they are way too bony. Where to find omg. The only bad thing was when she was lamenting about how anorexic-looking and hunched over the models were, she say girls must be at least a bit meaty, bak bak, like HER! (points at my arm!). I made a mental note to go on a diet.
AND I've got a crush on this cute German guy that I met at work, which I don't think he remembers me and that I'll ever see him again. He deals with eco electric scooters and is practically Captain Planet to me. Makes no sense but whatever |

| Classic |
[Oct. 12th, 2008|07:42 pm] |
I don't know why, but I'm a happy person again. I got shriveled up like a sng buay for some time but I'm good now. Why the usage of sng buay as a simile you ask.
When we bump into neighbours on our way out, my mum would always greet everyone Good Morning! with a smile like she's really glad to see them. Then when we come across the really pissy looking ones she would comment, Eh just now that person must be just had sng buay for breakfast, coz his face like a SNG BUAY! HAHAHA. (like sng buay = sour and scrunched up) So anyway I'm done with my sng buay phase. Maybe because my family changed our shower curtain, from some blue bubble pattern to bright yellow and the bright yellow looks so smiley.
I bought the dvd Casablanca from Carrefour, for only $5. I love chancing upon such deals where they have movie classics selling for $5 and I've always wanted to watch Casablanca anyway. Other titles I'm looking out for are Gone with the Wind, and West Side Story.

The other time I bought West Side Story, I asked the sales assistant in the vcd/dvd store for West Side Story and he gave me Xi Jie Shao Nian, the series with 5566. Hahaa

Somehow I managed to get the vcd somewhere. I had time to watch only the first 10 mins, and then when I came back to watching it a few days/weeks later I realised I lost Disc 1. TSK! Then while on my search for the dvd, someone told me that the male lead dies in the end. Double TSK!
Random note: I've been watching Oprah in the mornings and I love her.
Update on phone search: I decided I want one with WLAN. And none of those that I'm considering have that. Is it so difficult to find an flip phone that is pretty (preferably white), with a decent camera and WLAN and costs less than $300? TSK! |

When the second season of Ugly Betty started almost one year ago, I watched the first episode, found out that Santos died, got so upset and didn't continue watching. Now a year later, I finally got over the fact and I've continued on with the second episode.
Does anyone else think that Henry (with his slicked back hair, rectangular glasses and layered knits) is really cute?

There was one scene where he appeared at Betty's house, disheveled and drunk.
Betty: Oh God Henry, you've been drinking
Henry: Yes I have. But I drank milk first to coat my stomach.
Lol. Such a dork! |

I went slightly crazy when I found out that The Face Shop sells nail polish for only, gasp $2.90! Played around with a few colours, then tried their nail polish remover which works really well. Smelled something sweet. Ooh, nail polish remover that doesn't stink but smell like candy!
Let me put my nose near to take in a strong whiff of candy goodness!
-____-
BLEARGH. What was I thinking. Upclose it smells exactly like regular polish remover and I took a deep breath. Hahaa. Like sniffing glue |

| Another phone post |
[Sep. 18th, 2008|12:03 am] |
Thinking of getting a new phone. Flip phone. Here's two models that I'm considering:
Nokia 6600 Fold

LG KF300

Pink version!

I'm leaning towards the LG phone, even though the Nokia looks cooler and sleeker. The Nokia IS cooler in a sense that the time shows when you tap on the cover, and there is a button where the phone can flip itself open.
The LG costs about $300 less. And pink! How to resist. I'm most likely going to get the pink one, and bling it with gold accessories. I know, I'm such an ah lian.
Any suggestions? |
